Do you know why you do what you do?

Just returned from the inspiring AM&AA winter conference in Miami.  A private equity equity guy on a panel made a comment that stuck with me:  “When a company isn’t living its mission and doesn’t know why it does what it does, this almost always shows up in the efficiency ratios.”  Another indication that when companies aren’t aligned, people don’t pay as much for them.
